Parker's First Tooth

For the last couple of months, I have been feeling around in Parker's mouth in search of little teeth. Last Thursday, I felt something! On August 5th, I noticed that his first tooth was breaking through his sweet little gums. It was very exciting--and sharp. The thing feels like a little tiny razor blade poking through. I can't believe he has not seemed any more fussy than usual! We've been giving him teething rings to chew on and he sometimes acts interested but other times does not. If nothing else, it's a great distraction--he seems to enjoy them!

First Foods

So...Parker is now about five and a half months old and we have been him rice cereal for a couple of weeks now. He had his first taste on July 24th!
Yummm..thanks, Dad!

More, please

Getting stuffed!

He absolutely loves it. We mix it with one to two ounces of my milk, and he acts like he could eat it all day! For now, we are just feeding him solids for socialization/experimentation purposes right now. All of his nutritional needs are being met by the breast milk at this point, so solids are not a necessity, but it's fun to do it! Since it's not a necessity, we aren't really on a set schedule. We've been feeding him most evenings and in the morning on Saturdays. When we go to his six-month doctor's appointment at the end of the month, we will talk with the doctor about putting him on more of a schedule with his food intake.I want to make baby food for him and plan to do that--not all the time but a lot of the time. A wonderful couple from our church bought the Beaba Babycook for us before Parker was born. Prior to that, I had never thought of making my own baby food. Now, I cannot wait! I love to cook in general, so the thought making food for my baby is exciting to me. While I was at Target this week, I decided to buy some baby food to have on hand to use. I just bought peas. We decided to introduce him to vegetables first instead of fruits because the pediatrician recommended it. She said that if you introduce fruits first, it often causes the child to be more resistant to vegetables. On Saturday, we decided to give him some of the peas basically just for fun. It was definitely interesting.....
The initial reaction

Another bite...

Still not so sure!

One more bite...

Self-explanatory!

At this point, we were done with the peas! haha! We started off with rice cereal, switched to the peas in the middle (sneaky), then switched back to the rice cereal so he would be happy at the end of the meal :)

This evening, we gave him oatmeal for the first time, and he couldn't get enough of it, either! He would probably eat about 10 bowls of it if we let him. Maybe this weekend we'll try carrots......
